Conan the Freaking Infurating Barbarian (PS3)
I finally got to playing the rest of Conan the Barbarian for my PS3, and just when I was starting to enjoy it, it was over. But, when I say over, I actually mean, I got to the last fight and spent a good 2 hours trying to finish it. Arguably, I have been known to play games after having a few drinks, but I have no idea how the hell someone is supposed to beat him in one go. If there is any kind of slip up, you can get wiped out within a minute. Having said that, the game was trying very hard to be God of War. Which is pretty lazy, but, God of War was excellent so hell, its not always a bad thing.
The combo system was pretty good, buying specific combos for Conan let you customise your favorite weapon set with long combos and shorter block breaking ones. Every style has advantages and I actually found myself using sword and shield for the last few stages. More because Conan can have a disarm move where you steal the baddies weapons, leaving them unarmed and you with 2 weapons. The game did get very boring in the middle where there is a lull where Conan isnt gaining experience fast enough but the last few areas really get you drawn in. The only problem is that I almost lost interest completely in the middle and wasn’t going to play it ever again.
My biggest issue with the game(other than the final boss) is the camera. There are a hell of a lot of areas where you will need to jump to grab a ledge above a pit(instant death) and the camera either turns mid-jump, or not at all. Unless you have some kind of superhuman depth perception, this can be a bit frustrating. However, its almost as if the developers did it on purpose as the restart points are never too far away.
Overall it was a fun game…. at times…. but Conan is no Kratos and doesn’t even come close.
