I Heart Turn-based Games on my PSP
Already in posession of a PS2 and PS3, I went out and grabbed a PSP bundle at Target on the weekend and I have been playing it on and off since then. I didn’t even remember to get a memory stick to save games, but I have been playing nonetheless. I actually thought it was a stupid idea of me to get one, but I am actually playing it more than I thought. I actually think its the style of gameplay that Squad Command uses.
Even as a kid I have been into wargaming and I still am. I might be letting a few skeletons out of closets, but I have been wargaming for quite some time. I wont justify or get into it, but it’s also another reason why I like Squad Command and Dawn of War. I don’t really like Dawn of War as much just because it plays like an insane game of Starcraft. Not that it wasn’t an awesome game, but I haven’t really mastered the idea of looking after everything at once, raiding areas, only to have your base razed by units the computer has just built in barely any time in the only tiny, unexplored area on the map. I like Squad Command because it plays more like the tabletop game, and well.. chess. Turn based games are great cos I tend to get sidetracked very easily and like to go get a drink, or go out and pick up where I left off, whereas a game of Dawn of War can’t be left alone.
There have been other turn based Warhammer games such as Final Liberation and Rites of War and I have played them both through. Not that they have had great reviews, or even been good, but hey, I’m a sucker for turn based games, and I’m sad to see them disappearing. I may even start hunting them down.
