Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Maybe it’s because I love a bit of insane anime fighting, maybe it’s because it’s one of the many morning cartoons I wasn’t intending on watching yet would up following the series, but I was really impressed by this demo. The characters are Naruto and his teacher, the staple of the series(at least the first series) and the gameplay follows the cartoon quite closely. Simple things like dodging attacks by using the wooden logs as decoys was a great tribute to the cartoon and like all good fighting games, button bashing will get you somewhere, but if you know what you’re doing it’s all over. Arguably I did a lot of bashing, but I found some great moves, and the computer(as Naruto) let me see how in depth the game will be.

There are heaps of characters in the Naruto series, and being based around Ninjas using their shakra to use insane special moves, what’s there not to like? It might seem very Dragonball Z, but the fighting is a lot free-er and summoning minions to help at will is a nice touch that can always screw things up for a beatdown opponent. I was pretty impressed, it’s a great looking demo and looks like it could be a lot of fun. Definitely on the ‘to buy’ pile.

Viking: Battle for Asgard

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Okay, this is my first video for quite some time, so excuse me if its a bit rough. For ages I’ve been meaning to record some gameplay from the Viking: Battle for Asgard game and I’ve only just gotten around to it. It’s a 20 meg video so be warned, it might take some time to cue, but I did cut it down quite a bit from the original. I just grabbed some nice kills that I described in an earlier post and my first ‘raid’ so to speak. Im currently playing a lot of Dragonball Z Burst Limit, but I think the last few fights have got my adrenaline rushing so I might pick this back up again sooner than I thought.

Enjoy:

Conan the Freaking Infurating Barbarian (PS3)

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

I finally got to playing the rest of Conan the Barbarian for my PS3, and just when I was starting to enjoy it, it was over. But, when I say over, I actually mean, I got to the last fight and spent a good 2 hours trying to finish it. Arguably, I have been known to play games after having a few drinks, but I have no idea how the hell someone is supposed to beat him in one go. If there is any kind of slip up, you can get wiped out within a minute. Having said that, the game was trying very hard to be God of War. Which is pretty lazy, but, God of War was excellent so hell, its not always a bad thing.

Smackdown VS Raw 08 on PS3

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

I was lucky enough to get this game as a gift a couple of weeks ago and, being a fan of the WWE since I was… hell I don’t know, as long as I can remember, I was excited to get it. The last game was a bit average in comparison the the leaps and bounds the others improved in, and sadly, this game takes a step in the same direction.

The game plays the same, with a few new matches and another new way to develop your own superstars. In fact, I quite like the career mode, but the actual gameplay is essentially the same. Normally, this would be a good thing, but the last game left a lot of fans a little angry. To do it a second time….. well, I will let you decide…
